CAI raises cotton production estimate
The Cotton Association of India (CAI) has increased its cotton production estimate for the 2024-25 season to 30.424 million bales, which is 200,000 bales higher than the previous forecast, but still lower than the 32.745 million bales in the 2023-24 season.
Key points:
The previous carryover stock is 3.019 million bales. After 2.5 million bales of imports, the total availability stands at 36 million bales.
The domestic demand is estimated at 31.5 million bales, with a surplus of 4.4 million bales. After exporting 1.8 million bales, the remaining stock could be 2.644 million bales.
Cotton production in Telangana is expected to rise by 600,000 bales to 4.2 million bales, while production in North India has been reduced by 350,000 bales.
By the end of December, 17.6 million bales of cotton had arrived in the markets, with a daily arrival rate of 150,000 bales.
The Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) has purchased 15.6 million bales, marking a significant buying effort.
