According to NOAA’s 7-day precipitation forecast, some rainfall is expected in the SRW wheat region next week, but most parts of the Southern Plains are still expected to remain relatively dry.
Weekly Export Sales data released on Thursday showed total wheat export commitments at 24.252 MMT, which is 15% higher than the same period last year. This represents about 99% of the USDA export projection and is close to the average sales pace of 100%.
Commitment of Traders data showed managed money in CBT wheat holding a net short position of 2,234 contracts, which is a reduction of 10,468 contracts from the previous week and the smallest net short position since July 2022. In KC wheat, speculative funds held a net long position of 9,705 contracts, down by 1,021 contracts from the previous week.
The March Intentions report due next Tuesday is expected to show wheat acreage at around 44.79 million acres, which would be about 544,000 acres lower than last year. Grain Stocks are estimated at 1.31 billion bushels, about 73 million bushels higher than a year ago.
Algeria purchased an estimated 690,000 MT of wheat in a tender on Thursday. FranceAgriMer reported that France’s winter wheat crop ratings remained at 84% good/excellent, unchanged from the previous week.
