Welcome Address by Vivek Aggarwal, Managing Director of BSAF
Ladies and Gentlemen, esteemed guests, distinguished speakers, dignitaries, and delegates,
Good morning and a warm welcome to all of you. It is truly an honor to stand before you today at the inaugural session of the South Asia Agri Forum 2025, organized by the India Subcontinent Agri Foundation (BSAF) here in the beautiful city of Colombo, Sri Lanka. We are grateful to have all of you with us for this important occasion.
At BSAF, we have embarked on a continuous journey to unite the entire South Asian region on a single platform. Our mission is to transcend the borders of individual countries and foster the exchange of collective knowledge, experience, and expertise in the global agriculture sector. This forum is not merely a gathering of delegates but a confluence of ideas, strategies, and perspectives. It is a unique opportunity for all of us to come together and discuss, in depth, the many challenges and opportunities currently facing the agricultural landscape.
This forum serves as an invaluable platform to not only discuss but also resolve crucial issues affecting our sector. It allows us to accelerate the pace of development and expansion within the agriculture domain, and further provides an opportunity to promote the trade of agricultural products across South Asia and beyond. We believe that by working together, we can forge solutions that are both innovative and sustainable, enabling growth in agricultural practices and economic prosperity across the region.
The theme of this inaugural session emphasizes the importance of collective efforts in addressing the pressing challenges that the agriculture sector is currently grappling with. Today, we are privileged to have with us world-renowned analysts, experts, and scholars who will guide us through these critical issues. Through our discussions, we hope to identify a variety of alternative solutions, which, we trust, will prove to be transformative for the future of agriculture.
Among the issues that demand our attention, one of the most pressing is climate change. This global challenge is already disrupting supply chains and impacting agricultural production. As tensions and conflicts persist in various regions, food security has become a growing concern for governments, businesses, and consumers alike. There is no doubt that addressing these challenges will require collective and coordinated efforts.
South Asia, as we all know, is home to a significant portion of the world's population. The region boasts a rich agricultural heritage and immense potential, making it a powerhouse in crop diversification, agricultural processes, and agribusiness activities. Yet, we are also acutely aware of the many obstacles that stand in our way. From climate-induced challenges to logistical constraints, from policy gaps to technological advancements that need scaling—our journey forward will require determination, collaboration, and innovation.
Together, as a united South Asian community, we have the opportunity to build a more resilient, sustainable, and prosperous agricultural future. This forum is a step in that direction, and I sincerely hope that it serves as a catalyst for meaningful dialogue, partnerships, and initiatives that will shape the future of agriculture in South Asia and the world at large.
Once again, I extend my warmest welcome to each and every one of you. I look forward to the fruitful discussions ahead and to the lasting impact we will create together.
Thank you.
