Urad Market Recovers Amidst Weak Selling and Rising Buying
Chennai: During the current week, a sentiment of recovery was observed across Urad markets nationwide. Urad prices firmed up due to easing selling pressure and increased buying activity from pulse mills and stockists. The market, which had been under continuous pressure for some time, received support from robust buying at lower price levels, leading to a surge in trading activities. According to trade sources, a gradual improvement in the demand for Urad dal is being witnessed. A positive atmosphere prevails in the domestic market, driven by active procurement from pulse mills. In particular, consistent buying by millers at lower levels has provided a strong foundation for prices. Limited yet regular buying by stockists is also lending support to the market. Regarding supply, arrivals of the Rabi Urad crop are still ongoing in Andhra Pradesh, while arrivals of the new summer crop have commenced in Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat. With the arrival of the new crop, market availability is gradually increasing. However, current arrivals are not as high as anticipated; consequently, significant downward pressure has not yet fully materialized in the market.
Due to limited selling by importers and an improvement in demand, Urad prices in Chennai recorded a recovery of ₹50 per quintal this week. Following this recovery, prices settled at ₹7,875 per quintal for FAQ (Fair Average Quality) grade and ₹8,550 per quintal for SQ (Superior Quality) grade Urad.
