Tur Prices Soften Amidst Limited Demand
Mumbai: During the current week, Tur (Pigeon Pea) prices witnessed a downward trend due to increased selling pressure at elevated levels and subdued buying activity. In the domestic market, prices remained under pressure as demand from pulse mills remained limited, and buyers were observed making purchases strictly according to their immediate requirements. According to trade sources, the market failed to receive adequate support during trading sessions as buying interest remained relatively weak, resulting in Tur prices remaining soft. However, arrivals of indigenous *Arhar* (Tur) in the *mandis* (wholesale markets) of producing states have remained relatively low, preventing any significant build-up of supply pressure in the market. Market observers note that the market is receiving good support at lower price levels, partly because selling by stockists has also remained limited. While no major surge in prices is currently visible due to demand being weaker than normal, the likelihood of a significant decline in prices is also low given the limited arrivals and dwindling stocks. According to market experts, if demand for pulses improves in the coming days, strength could return to the Tur market. Under current circumstances, the market remains balanced, and prices are expected to trade within a limited range. Due to increased selling pressure from importers and weakening demand, prices for African Tur in Mumbai recorded a decline of ₹100–150 per quintal during the current week. By the weekend, prices stood at ₹6,350 per quintal for Mozambique White, ₹6,250 for Gajri, ₹6,150 for Matwara, ₹5,950 for Malawi, and ₹7,950 for Sudan varieties. Meanwhile, in the Chennai market, Tur Lemon prices also recorded a decline of ₹75 per quintal this week, settling at ₹7,750 per quintal by the weekend.
