Tuvar prices rise due to increased buying
Mumbai. Turvar prices have strengthened during the current week. Active activity from millers and stockists, as well as government procurement, supported the rising prices. Government procurement of turvar has begun in Maharashtra, a major producing state. Government procurement is also continuing in Karnataka at the support price. The central government has fixed the minimum support price (MSP) for turvar at ₹8,000 per quintal, while current open market prices in many major markets are below this. Consequently, farmers are increasingly flocking to government procurement centers. With prices in the open market remaining below the MSP, farmers are prioritizing selling their produce at government counters. This could ease the pressure on arrivals in local markets. If this situation persists, the supply available in the open market will be limited, which is likely to support prices. iGrain India says that the pace of government procurement will determine the market direction in the coming weeks. If the procurement process remains smooth and fast, tur prices may see a further increase. On the other hand, if for some reason procurement slows down or there is a sudden increase in arrivals in the open market, the rise may be limited.
