News Capsule: Crop damage from rains to be reviewed: Agriculture Minister
★ The Agriculture Minister has directed officials to conduct a detailed assessment of crop losses caused by heavy rainfall and hailstorms across several states in India.
★ Meanwhile, the weather department has warned of deteriorating weather conditions over northwest India between April 7 and 10. States including Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh are likely to witness rain, thunderstorms and hailstorms.
★ In some areas, wind speeds may reach up to 70 km per hour, along with a drop in temperatures by 3–5 degrees Celsius.
★ Such adverse weather conditions could increase damage to rabi crops, especially wheat, as harvesting is currently underway. Crops like lentil (masoor), gram (chana) and peas are in the final stages of harvesting, while mustard harvesting has almost been completed.
