Limited Paddy Arrivals in Markets; Improved Trading in Rice
New Delhi: Currently, arrivals of Basmati and 'A' grade non-Basmati paddy are limited to only a few select markets across the country, and the volumes remain low.
Delhi
During the week of August 15–21, paddy stocks reached only a handful of markets, including Narela (Delhi), Bhatapara and Rajim (Chhattisgarh), Kota and Bundi (Rajasthan), Gondia (Maharashtra), and a few scattered markets in Uttar Pradesh. Paddy prices saw a slight increase due to modest buying by millers and processors.
Prices
In Narela, the price of '1509 Combine' paddy rose by ₹73 to reach ₹4,133 per quintal. In Bhatapara, prices for HMT and Shriram paddy improved by ₹100 per quintal each, and Mahamaya rose by ₹200 per quintal, whereas the price of Vishnu Bhog dropped by ₹500 to settle at ₹3,500 per quintal. Paddy prices in Rajim remained largely stable.
Arrivals
Daily arrivals there stood at 6,000–7,000 bags of paddy. In Kota, Rajasthan, 1,000 bags arrived daily, and prices remained steady at previous levels amidst normal trading.
Rice
As for rice, price increases ranging from ₹100 to ₹300 per quintal were recorded. In Bhatapara, the price of HMT rice rose by ₹300 to reach ₹6,000–6,100 per quintal, while prices for Shriram and Swarna rice declined by ₹100 per quintal each.
Punjab / Amritsar
In Amritsar, Punjab, prices for most rice varieties and grades rose by ₹150–200 per quintal, while the price of '1401 Steam' rice increased by ₹300 to reach ₹9,700–9,750 per quintal.
Buying
Although the smooth and easy movement of ships through the Strait of Hormuz has not yet resumed and the threat posed by Houthi rebels in the Red Sea persists, Indian exporters continue to show interest in purchasing Basmati rice.
Improved Trading
Driven by robust trading activity at the Nagar Mandi (Uttarakhand), Bundi Mandi (Rajasthan), and Naya Bazar (Delhi), rice prices from various regions saw an increase of ₹200–300.
