Chana prices improve due to improved demand
New Delhi. Chickpea prices have registered a significant improvement during the current week. Chickpea prices, which had been under constant pressure for some time, found support this week as selling at lower levels decreased and buying increased. The market remained positive, particularly due to increased activity from stockists and pulse millers. Millers began increasing stocks in anticipation of upcoming demand, while stockists also expressed interest in buying due to limited availability and potential future surges. This strengthened the demand balance in the markets and led to an improvement in prices. Meanwhile, arrivals of the new chickpea crop have gradually begun in Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Gujarat, the major producing states of South and West India. However, traders say that arrivals are currently limited, as the main harvest season has not yet begun. Millers are making selective purchases due to the relatively high moisture content in the initial arrivals. Experts believe that if the weather remains favorable in the coming days and harvesting accelerates, arrivals to the market may increase. In the event of increased arrivals, supply will increase, which is expected to put pressure on prices. Especially if stockists book profits at the current high levels, the market may soften again. Due to increased buying by pulse millers, Delhi gram prices rose by Rs. 75 per quintal today. With this increase, prices for Madhya Pradesh line were at Rs. 5700/5725 and Rajasthan line were at Rs. 5750/5775 per quintal at the end of the week.
