Fluctuations in the Chana Market; Recovery at Week's End
New Delhi: During the current week, the Chana market witnessed a mixed trend, characterized by alternating phases of bullishness and bearishness. Market strength proved unsustainable as buyer interest waned at elevated price levels, resulting in a persistent lack of price stability. According to traders, the decline in buying activity at higher levels had a direct impact on prices, keeping the market under pressure throughout the week. Meanwhile, arrivals of new Chana crops have gradually begun to increase in the major producing *mandis* (markets) of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. As the pace of harvesting accelerates, supplies in the *mandis* are rising, thereby exerting additional pressure on the market. Given the increasing arrivals, pulse millers and stockists have adopted a cautious stance. Buying activity remains limited at higher price points, and market participants are refraining from building large inventories. The market is failing to receive adequate support due to the absence of an anticipated recovery in demand. However, a slight recovery in prices was recorded towards the end of the week as inquiries from pulse millers picked up. Despite this, Delhi Chana prices witnessed fluctuations ranging between ₹50 and ₹100 per quintal over the course of the week. At the close of the week, Chana prices settled at ₹5,575–₹5,600 per quintal for the Madhya Pradesh line and ₹5,625–₹5,650 per quintal for the Rajasthan line.
Ports
Due to a slowdown in selling activity by importers and an increase in import costs, imported Chana prices recorded a rise of ₹50–₹75 per quintal this week. Following this increase, prices settled at ₹5,200 per quintal for the Mumbai (Tanzania) line, ₹5,500 per quintal for the Nhava Sheva (Australia) line, and ₹5,400 per quintal for the Mundra line. Rajasthan
Driven by increased buying activity from pulse millers, Rajasthan Chana (chickpea) prices recorded a rise of ₹50–100 per quintal this week. Following this upward trend, prices at the week's end stood at ₹5,050 in Jodhpur, ₹5,575 in Jaipur, ₹5,100–5,400 in Bikaner, ₹4,500–5,200 in Kishangarh, and ₹5,000–5,400 per quintal in Kota.
