Weather System Over Arabian Sea May Hinder Monsoon Arrival in Mumbai

Mumbai. A private weather forecasting agency has stated that a weather system developing over the Arabian Sea could pose an obstacle to the onset of the southwest monsoon. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated that the monsoon is likely to reach the southern coast of Kerala on May 26 this year.
According to the private agency, initial indications suggest that a cyclonic circulation will form over the central-southern Arabian Sea on May 21, and the next day, on May 22, a low-pressure area may also develop there. By May 23, this system could intensify over the central-western sea and turn into a depression, which could slightly delay the arrival of the southwest monsoon.
It is understood that this will not cause major difficulties in the formation of the monsoon over the sea, but its progress toward India could slow down because the depression and cyclonic circulation may block its path. However, the weather department has not made any changes to its updates yet. If the agency’s prediction proves correct, a new date for the monsoon’s arrival may need to be set.
