Urad Prices Continue to Decline Amid Falling Rates in Burma and Weak Demand

Urad prices continue to show a softening trend, driven by weak demand from pulse mills in the domestic market and a decline in prices in Burma. The drop in international market prices has impacted domestic market sentiment, while persistent selling by stockists and limited procurement by pulse mills have further increased pressure on the market.

Today, in Burma, the price of FAQ (Fair Average Quality) Urad fell by $5 per tonne, and the price of SQ (Special Quality) Urad dropped by $10 per tonne. Following this decline, the price of FAQ Urad stands at $925 per tonne, and SQ Urad at $995 per tonne. This softening in the international market is also being reflected in the Indian market.

Currently, domestic pulse mills are purchasing Urad only to meet their immediate requirements. Due to weak demand and continued selling pressure from stockists, the price of FAQ Urad in Chennai fell by ₹150 per quintal, while the price of SQ Urad dropped by ₹125 per quintal. Meanwhile, the price of 'Brazil' variety Urad saw a decline of ₹200 per quintal. Consequently, in Chennai, the price of FAQ Urad is now ₹9,350 per quintal, SQ Urad is ₹9,775 per quintal, and 'Brazil' Urad is ₹9,900 per quintal.

Market Analysis: Currently, the primary factors exerting pressure on the Urad market include weak demand, selling by stockists, and declining prices in Burma. Limited buying by pulse mills is preventing any upward momentum in the market. Future price trends will largely depend on developments in the international market, demand from domestic pulse mills, and the selling activity of stockists.
