Tur (pigeon pea) prices continue to decline due to weak demand and selling by importers; 'Lemon' variety in Chennai drops by ₹150.

A lack of buying interest in the domestic market has kept Tur prices soft today. Weak demand for Tur dal has resulted in limited procurement by dal millers, failing to provide sufficient support to the market. Meanwhile, increased selling of Tur sourced from African countries and Myanmar by importers has exerted additional pressure on the market.

Although the selling pressure on domestic (indigenous) Tur remains relatively lower compared to imported varieties, the limited purchasing by dal millers is dampening any bullish sentiment in the market.

Due to sluggish demand, prices for various varieties of African Tur fell by up to ₹100 per quintal today, while the price of 'Lemon' Tur in Chennai dropped by ₹150 per quintal. Following this decline, prices in Mumbai stood at ₹7,950–8,100 per quintal for Mozambique white Tur, ₹7,850–8,350 per quintal for Gajri Tur, ₹7,200–7,900 per quintal for Malawi Tur, and ₹8,400 per quintal for Arusha Tur. In Chennai, the price of 'Lemon' Tur fell to ₹9,400 per quintal.

Market Analysis:

Currently, weak consumer demand, limited procurement by dal millers, and increased selling by importers are the primary factors weighing on the Tur market. The availability and rising sales of imported Tur continue to pressure prices, whereas domestic Tur may find some support due to relatively lower selling pressure. In the coming days, the market's direction will largely depend on the demand for dal, the volume of sales of imported stock, and the purchasing activity of dal millers.
