Strong demand leads to rise in Kabuli chana but prices are lower than last year

Indore. Due to strong demand for Kabuli chana, its prices have started improving but its price is still slightly behind last year.

It is understood that if the trend of rise in prices continues, then the government may decide to allow duty free import of Kabuli chana like Desi chana and yellow peas.

On June 20, 2024, a day before the implementation of the stock limit, the price of Kabuli chana was running at Rs 8500 on the lower side and Rs 10,400 per quintal on the upper side in Indore market,

which increased to Rs 9000 and Rs 10700 per quintal respectively after the removal of storage limit on July 11. Similarly,

the price of Kabuli chana in Dewas Mandi was running at Rs 8000 at the lowest and Rs 9900 per quintal at the highest on 20th June, which increased to Rs 9000 and Rs 11,500 per quintal respectively on 11th July. This was the bulk price of Kabuli chana.

On 8th August 2024, the price of Kabuli chana in Indore Mandi was recorded at Rs 9000 per quintal at the lowest and Rs 13,600 per quintal at the highest, which is much lower than the prevailing price of Rs 10,500 per quintal and Rs 14,500 per quintal respectively on 8th August 2023.

The situation was the same in Dewas. There, the price of Kabuli chana in bulk was running at a high of Rs 14,540 per quintal and a low of Rs 11,500 per quintal on 8 August 2023, which fell to Rs 13,500 per quintal on 8 August 2024, but the price increased by Rs 1000 to Rs 12,000 per quintal.

The price of Kabuli chana in containers was Rs 12,300 per quintal in Indore market on 20 June, which increased to Rs 13,300 per quintal on 11 July and jumped to a top level of Rs 15,900 per quintal on 8 August,

which was Rs 100 below the prevailing price of Rs 16,000 per quintal on 8 August 2023. This is the spot price of Kabuli chana of 40/42 count. Similarly,

the spot price of 44/46 count Kabuli gram in containers increased from Rs 12,100 on June 20 to Rs 13,100 per quintal on July 11 and jumped to Rs 15,500 per quintal on August 8, but it remained slightly below the prevailing price of Rs 15,600 per quintal on August 8, 2023.
