Hobart. Storm and rain in Queensland and northern New South Wales provinces in Australia and cold weather has hindered the harvesting of various winter crops and due to its slow pace, some shortage is being felt in the market.

Although there is no immediate effect on the prices of various commodities in the markets of the northern region, but there has been a slight increase in the price of wheat for delivery of remote positions.

There are reports of some damage to crops in the Wimmera district of Victoria province due to this storm and rain in the southern part of the country, but the late sown crop is expected to benefit from this.

In South Australia province, crops were suffering heavy damage due to drought, but it is expected to get some relief from this rain.

It is believed that the harvesting of grain and canola crops damaged due to dry weather and dense fog is almost over and the remaining crop will be harvested normally.

According to the information received, the spot price of barley in the Downs region on October 10, 2024 was $ 285 per tonne, while for January delivery it was being quoted at $ 310 per tonne.

Similarly, the price of wheat was being quoted at $ 330 and $ 333 per tonne and the price of sorghum was $ 325 and $ 310. In Melbourne too, the price of wheat improved from $ 350 to $ 355 and the price of barley improved from $ 320 to $ 325 per tonne.

Due to storms and rains in Queensland and New South Wales provinces, harvesting of crops has stopped in some particularly affected areas, while its pace has slowed down in less affected areas.

In both these states, harvesting of crops starts relatively earlier. In areas where the impact of storms and rains was not or negligible, the harvesting process is continuing normally.
