CFTC Commitment of Traders data showed that as of January 27, speculative funds added 7,261 contracts to their soybean futures and options positions, increasing their net long position to 17,321 contracts.
USDA Export Sales data indicates that as of January 22, soybean export commitments totaled 33.85 million metric tons, down 20% from last year. This accounts for 79% of the USDA’s export estimate, compared to the average sales pace of 87%.
The USDA is scheduled to release crush data on Monday, with traders expecting 230.4 million bushels of soybeans to have been crushed during December.
Buenos Aires Grains Exchange data shows that 47% of Argentina’s soybean crop is rated good to excellent. This is better than last week but 6 percentage points lower than last year, although significantly higher than the 24% rating during the same week last year.
