Indore. There has been a good increase in the sowing area of both the major oilseed crops of Kharif season - soybean and groundnut,
due to which the total production area of Kharif period oilseed crops has increased to 192.40 lakh hectares, which is 1.6 percent more than the sowing area of 189.44 lakh hectares during the same period last year.
Under this, the area of soybean increased from 123.85 lakh hectares to 125.11 lakh hectares and the sowing area of groundnut jumped from 43.39 lakh hectares to 47.49 lakh hectares. However,
there has been a decrease in the area of sesame and castor, while the area of sunflower is almost the same as last year.
According to industry and trade critics, generally the condition of soybean crop is good in top producing states like Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Karnataka and it is developing properly.
The sowing process has been completed and flowers and grains are appearing in the plants. The early sown crop has started ripening and its harvesting preparations can begin soon.
Looking at the current encouraging condition of the crop, it seems that if there is no heavy rainfall and severe flood or water logging in the future, there can be a great production of soybean. However, there is news of some damage to the crop in states like Gujarat.
Contrary to expectations, this time the sowing area of soybean has increased. In view of the weak market price, its production area was earlier estimated to fall by 5-10 percent.
The wholesale market price has still not increased much, the government has assured to buy it in large quantities from farmers on the minimum support price (MSP).
The minimum support price of soybean has also been increased by 6.3 percent to Rs 4892 per quintal.
