News Capsule: Soybean Crop Condition Normal to Good, SOPA Survey Indicates Favorable Outlook
★ The Soybean Processors Association of India (SOPA) conducted a field survey of the soybean crop across major producing regions of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan from August 16 to 22, 2026. Two survey teams covered approximately 4,852 km during the exercise.
★ According to government data, soybean was sown over 121.350 lakh hectares during Kharif 2026, compared with 123.461 lakh hectares last year. SOPA estimates the actual area at around 117.941 lakh hectares, taking into account intercropping in Maharashtra and possible over-reporting of acreage by some farmers.
★ According to SOPA's survey teams, the soybean crop in the three major producing states is generally in normal to good condition. Crop growth has been satisfactory in most areas, with good vegetative development. A significant portion of the crop has reached the flowering and pod-formation stages.
★ The survey found no widespread or severe incidence of weeds, insects, or diseases. However, localized issues including late sowing, moisture stress, prolonged cloudy or foggy weather, and mild yellow mosaic symptoms were observed in some areas of Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra.
★ Overall, based on current field conditions, the outlook for the Kharif 2026 soybean crop remains favorable. However, timely and adequate rainfall in the coming weeks will be important, particularly for late-sown and moisture-stressed areas.
