Indore. The Soybean Processors Association of India (SOPA), a leading organization of the indigenous vegetable oil industry and trade sector, has estimated that domestic soybean production will decline to 105.36 lakh tonnes during the current marketing season (October-September) of 2025-26, which is 20.46 lakh tonnes less than the estimated production of 125.82 lakh tonnes in the 2024-25 season.
According to SOPA, not only has the soybean sown area decreased from 118.32 lakh hectares to 114.36 lakh hectares compared to last year, but its average yield rate is also likely to fall from 1063 kg per hectare to 920 kg per hectare.
Although the Union Agriculture Ministry has estimated soybean cultivation to be 120.43 lakh hectares this year, SOPA believes that its actual area was only 114.56 lakh hectares.
According to SOPA's report, during the current year, compared to last year, the area under soybean cultivation decreased from 52 lakh hectares to 48.64 lakh hectares in Madhya Pradesh,
from 11.13 lakh hectares to 9.07 lakh hectares in Rajasthan and from 4.37 lakh hectares to 4.22 lakh hectares in Karnataka, but in Maharashtra the area increased from 45 lakh hectares to 47.10 lakh hectares.
According to SOPA's report, soybean production during the current 2025-26 season is estimated to be 4.456 million tons in Madhya Pradesh, 4.674 million tons in Maharashtra, 5.67 million tons in Rajasthan, 3.65 million tons in Karnataka, 1.25 million tons in Telangana, 2.43 million tons in Gujarat, 19,000 tons in Chhattisgarh, and 88,000 tons in other states.
Floods and excess rainfall in major producing states have severely damaged soybean crops. This year, Maharashtra is expected to surpass Madhya Pradesh in soybean production.
According to SOPA, although Maharashtra is also expected to experience a significant decline in soybean production compared to last year, the decline in Madhya Pradesh will be more severe.
According to SOPA, in the 2024-25 season, soybean production was 5.540 million tons in Madhya Pradesh, 5.017 million tons in Maharashtra, and 1.053 million tons in Rajasthan. But this time the production in these three provinces is likely to decrease significantly.
