Small cardamom production affected due to slow monsoon in Kerala

Idukki. Although this year the southwest monsoon reached the far south of Kerala - Calicut coast two days before the scheduled time i.e. on 30 May,
due to which good rains were expected in this drought-affected state, but soon the monsoon slowed down there,
due to which the expected rains could not happen in the major cardamom producing areas. Earlier, the pre-monsoon rains were also less there. Due to less rainfall and high temperature,
the production of cardamom has decreased and the size of the grain has remained small. On the other hand, there is a possibility of a huge decrease in the production of cardamom in Guatemala due to bad weather. As a result, the prices have started rising there.
Due to this, the prices of cardamom have also increased in India. It is believed that due to dry and hot weather, there may be a delay of 15-20 days in the plucking and preparation of cardamom crop in India.
The dealers and Disawari traders who were earlier planning to start Kharif early with new goods may have to wait for some time.
The producers also do not have a huge stock of cardamom while there is a good demand for it in the domestic market.
The situation is also better on the export front. The arrival of new cardamom is now expected to pick up only in August while earlier the supply was expected to increase from July.
