News Capsule: Mozambique’s Agricultural Production Rises 15.7% in 2025
★ During the 2024–25 agricultural season, Mozambique’s agricultural output increased by 15.7% to about 352.2 million tonnes, compared to 304.5 million tonnes in the previous season.
★ Horticulture production saw a sharp rise of 39.3% to 112.7 million tonnes, while cereal output increased by 19.9% to 57 million tonnes
★ Production of nuts, especially cashew, grew by 37% to 195,000 tonnes, while sugarcane output rose by 2% to 1.8 million tonnes.
★ Despite this strong performance, floods in January affected around 441,000 hectares of crops, out of which about 275,000 hectares were completely damaged, impacting approximately 315,000 farmers.
★ According to the government, around 789,000 farming families were affected by adverse weather events such as droughts, floods, and other climatic factors, highlighting ongoing climate risks to the agricultural sector.
