No possibility of slowdown in current prices

New Delhi. Due to reduced arrivals at the markets of the producing centers and sporadic buying by exporters after a long time, the prices of fenugreek have increased by Rs 75/100 per quintal during the current week. Sources believe that due to the onset of rainy season, local demand will also improve in the coming days. Due to which the prices of fenugreek are likely to increase gradually. Estimates of a rise of Rs 4/5 per kg are being made in the coming days.

However, for the current season, the area of fenugreek sowing at the producing centers has increased marginally. Production was high due to the increase in per hectare due to the weather being favorable for the crop after sowing. Fenugreek is mainly produced in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Gujarat, the arrival of new crop comes in March-April. According to the information received, this year fenugreek was sown on 1.30 lakh hectares at the production centers, whereas last year the sowing area was 1.28 lakh hectares. Due to more sowing and favorable weather, this year the production of fenugreek in the country is estimated to be 18/19 lakh quintals, whereas last year the production was 17/18 lakh quintals.

Low stock

Due to more fenugreek during the year 2024-25, the stock remained low at the time of new crop. According to the information received, last year at the time of new crop, the stock of fenugreek at the production centers was 3.5/4 lakh quintals, whereas this year the stock was 1.5/2 lakh quintals.

No slowdown in prices

Informed sources say that for some time, fenugreek prices were going through a slowdown due to weak demand from exporters. But now the buying by exporters has started increasing gradually, due to which the prices have recently increased by 75/100 rupees per quintal. Sources believe that domestic demand will also increase in the months of July-August. Due to which the prices of fenugreek are likely to increase by 400/500 rupees per quintal. Currently, the price of average quality fenugreek in the mandis of Madhya Pradesh is 4800/5200 rupees.
