Monsoon Performance in June Disappoints
★ Rainfall remained below average in several states and regions.
★ Chhattisgarh recorded 39% less rainfall than average, Marathwada 41% less, Telangana 45% less, Vidarbha 59% less, Coastal Andhra Pradesh 37% less, and Eastern Rajasthan 34-40% less.
★ Although the monsoon arrived earlier than usual this year, it stalled midway.
★ This delayed monsoon activity may adversely impact the sowing of key Kharif crops such as paddy (rice), tur (pigeon pea), urad (black gram), moong (green gram), soybean, groundnut, sesame, sugarcane, cotton, and coarse grains like jowar (sorghum), bajra (pearl millet), and maize (corn).
