New Delhi. Due to the continuation of the activity of the southwest monsoon in many states of the country, torrential rains are occurring, due to which water accumulation has increased significantly especially in the low-lying areas and due to the rise in the rivers and streams,

there is a serious danger of floods. Fields and barns have been submerged in water in a large area and crops have drowned in water.

The states in which the havoc of monsoon rains is still continuing include important agricultural producing states like Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh.

Apart from this, the havoc of floods and rains is also being seen in Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir. It has been predicted that the series of rains will continue for three days in the national capital Delhi.

Kharif crops are being damaged due to heavy rains and floods in Ashok Nagar, Gwalior and Morena districts of Madhya Pradesh. This also includes pulses and oilseeds crops.

Rain has disrupted the crops in many districts of Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh. The situation is getting worse in Hamirpur and Sambhal districts of Uttar Pradesh.

It is noteworthy that the sowing of Kharif crops has reached its final stage and the crops are going through various stages of development.

In some areas, the early sown crops have ripened and are ready for harvesting, which is likely to suffer heavy losses due to rain and waterlogging in the fields.

Soybean, groundnut, urad, green gram and cotton crops may be affected the most. There is a need to keep a special watch on these crops in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.

At the national level, the production area of groundnut, soybean and green gram has increased during the current Kharif season as compared to last year, but the area of urad and cotton has decreased.
