By Sunday, 88% of the US winter wheat crop had headed, compared to the 86% average. Harvest progress is slow with just 4% complete, below the 5-year average of 7%. The crop condition rating improved by 2% to 54% good to excellent. The Brugler500 index increased by 5 points to 341. Rainfall over the past weekend in southern Kansas, Oklahoma, and Texas may delay early harvest activity. Heavy rain totals are forecast in Texas, Oklahoma, and parts of the SRW area over the next seven days.
Spring wheat emergence reached 82%, 1% ahead of the average. Conditions improved by 3% to 53% good to excellent. The Brugler500 index rose by 7 points to 347.
Export Inspections data showed wheat shipments of 290,957 tons (10.69 million bushels) for the week ending June 5. This was down 47.52% from the previous week and 17.55% lower than the same week last year. Of this total, 168,084 tons were for the new marketing year. Mexico was the largest destination with 87,242 tons, followed by Japan with two shipments totaling 92,845 tons.
Ukraine’s wheat production estimate was reduced by APK-Inform to 21.7 million tons, down from 21.8 million tons. SovEcon lowered its estimate for Russia’s wheat crop by 1.8 million tons to 82.8 million tons.
