New Delhi. Union Minister of Food, Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Prahlad Joshi has said that his first priority will be to effectively implement the agenda of the first 10 days.
This time, Karnataka MP and senior BJP leader Prahlad Joshi has been given this ministry, while earlier Piyush Goyal was handling the responsibility of this ministry.
According to the Food Minister, every effort will be made to implement the 100-day agenda identified by the former minister and it is expected that it will yield good results.
According to Prahlad Joshi, "I am grateful to the Prime Minister for giving me the opportunity to work in this ministry which is directly connected to the common people and where we are providing free food grains to more than 80 crore people.
Regarding the National Food Security Act, the Minister said that a solid system is already in place for this and they will continue to work towards strengthening it.
Regular supply of food grains will be continued. The Food Minister may have to face some challenges because this time there was not much increase in the purchase of wheat during the Rabi Marketing Season and the purchase of rice is also far behind the target set as well as last year.
People are troubled by food inflation in the domestic sector. The price of pulses and edible oils is running at a very high level while its import is being encouraged a lot.
It is essential to curb the rise in prices of essential food items. So far no decision has been taken about starting the sale of wheat under the Open Market Sale Scheme (OMSS).
