New Delhi. The Central Government is confident that due to all policy efforts and concrete measures, the prices of major agricultural and food products can remain stable to a large extent during the festive season.

According to the Union Food Secretary, there is no possibility of a sharp rise in the prices of rice, wheat, edible oil, sugar, pulses and vegetables in the near future as every effort is being made to increase its supply and availability.

Changes are being made in the import-export policy as per the need and indigenous industry-trade organizations are being asked to cooperate.

It has been decided to resume the distribution of wheat under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana and a quota of 35 lakh tonnes of wheat will be allocated for distribution from October 2024 to March 2025.

China is considering a proposal to relax or give concessions in the ban on rice exports. A credit guarantee scheme has been started to protect farmers from selling their produce at throwaway prices and to reduce the burden of post-harvest losses.

Traditionally, during the peak festive season, the demand, consumption and price of many essential food products increases, causing great inconvenience to the common consumers.

The prices of essential food products are already running at a high level and the graph of food inflation is also high.

The government has become fully active to prevent further increase in this, so it is confident of creating an environment of stability in the market. There has been some increase in the prices of edible oils and especially mustard oil during the days of dal.
