but no recession is expected

New Delhi. Fenugreek prices are currently trading at a high level. During the current week, prices have risen by ₹100-200 per quintal. Given the current situation, a recession is unlikely. Sources believe prices will continue to rise gradually in the coming days, as stocks at production centers are limited and are in strong hands. Furthermore, due to producers not receiving a fair price for their produce during the current season, fenugreek sowing for the coming year is likely to be affected. Fenugreek sowing will begin in November, and the new crop will arrive in March-April. Fenugreek is primarily grown in Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh, with Madhya Pradesh producing the most. It is noteworthy that during 2024, fenugreek was sown on 1.28 lakh hectares at production centers, which increased to 1.30 lakh hectares in 2025. After sowing, the weather was favorable for the crop, which resulted in fenugreek production during the current season estimated at 18-19 lakh quintals, compared to 17-18 lakh quintals in the previous season in 2024. Fenugreek production in Madhya Pradesh, a major producing state, is estimated to be approximately 9 lakh quintals during the current season. In Rajasthan, production was estimated at 6.50-7 lakh quintals. In Gujarat, production was estimated at 2.50-3 lakh quintals.

Low Availability

Although production during the current season was higher than last year, total availability remained low due to low outstanding stocks. According to information received, fenugreek stocks at producing centers last year at the time of arrival of the new crop were approximately 4 lakh quintals, while the outstanding stock during the current season was estimated to be approximately 1.5 lakh bags.

Inflow

Since most of the total production has arrived in the markets, current arrivals have remained low. Arrivals at the major Neemuch market have fallen to 1,400/1,500 bags, while those at Jaora are 800/1,000 bags. Arrivals at Jaora market are 500/600 bags. Arrivals at Rajkot market in Gujarat are 300/400 bags, while those at Kota and Nokha markets are 200/300 bags.

Slowdown-Rise

Informed sources say that there is no possibility of a decline in the current prices of fenugreek, as weak arrivals and the possibility of reduced sowing have led to a bullish market sentiment. Sources believe that prices could rise by ₹300/₹500 per quintal in the coming days due to increased export and local demand. Recently, fenugreek prices have risen by ₹100/₹200 per quintal to ₹4,800/₹5,300 per quintal.

Higher Exports

During the first four months of the current financial year 2025-26, April-July, fenugreek exports were 18 percent higher in quantitative terms, while earnings increased by 9 percent. According to information received, fenugreek exports during April-July 2025 were 16,943 tonnes, and export earnings were ₹124.03 crore. Meanwhile, during April-July 2024, fenugreek exports were 14,370 tonnes, and earnings were ₹113.27 crore. It is noteworthy that during the year 2024-25 (April-March), record fenugreek exports reached 44,516 tonnes, while export earnings were ₹365.89 crore.
