According to discussions with Mr. Jayjeev Saraff of Mandala Trading, Australia, he informed IGrain India that Australia is expected to produce over 2.5 million tons (25 lakh tons) of Desi Chana this season.
He mentioned that five vessels are planned for shipment from Australia to South Asia till November. For India, around 300–400 containers have been booked recently.
Mr. Saraff believes that, given the current market scenario, Chana prices could trade around 470 USD per ton, average near 500 USD, and possibly higher depending on the grading.
He also noted that after December, demand from Pakistan and Bangladesh is likely to decline, while India’s demand remain consistent.
Saraff added that comparing to last year at this time exports to India are moving at a lower pace.
Last year, initial volumes were very high due to the sudden opening of imports.
