Jaipur. This year the southwest monsoon reached Kerala on May 30 and its progress is also seen to be good. Due to the high and fast market price of all commodities,
Indian farmers are very excited about the cultivation of Kharif crops and this time the monsoon is also expected to be favorable for them.
But farmers may face a dilemma as to which crops should be given special priority in the Kharif season. In such a situation, the Minimum Support Price (MSP) can help them.
Shivraj Singh Chauhan has taken over the post of Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister and hence the minimum support price of Kharif crops is expected to be announced soon.
For this, the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices (CACP) has already submitted its recommendation (report). It is expected that this time the MSP of Kharif crops may increase by 5 to 10 percent compared to last year.
After the announcement of minimum support price for Kharif crops, the pace of sowing may increase even more.
This season, apart from paddy (two categories), jowar (two categories) and cotton (two categories), support prices are to be announced for some other crops including bajra, maize, ragi, tur (tuvar), urad, moong, soybean, groundnut, sunflower. The fair and remunerative price (FRP) of sugarcane has already been increased.
Moving ahead from South India, the monsoon has now reached West India (Maharashtra and Gujarat), while in the next three-four days it can reach Bengal, Bihar and some other eastern states.
Monsoon is sluggish in Deesa but is very active in Karnataka, so kharif crops are being sown vigorously there. Monsoon has weakened in Kerala.
