Tanzania's cashew production for the 2024-25 season has experienced a significant 34% increase, reaching 408,600 tonnes compared to 305,000 tonnes in the previous season.

However, this is still 31% less than the initial forecast of 595,000 tonnes. As of January 30, 2024, Tanzania had exported 337,700 tonnes of cashews, accounting for 83% of the total production.

The country is leading the way in Africa by selling its raw cashews through an official auction process, allowing producers to receive better prices.

The auction prices in the first week of the season ranged between 4035 to 4120 Tanzanian shillings (approximately 1.48-1.51 dollars) per kilogram, which is a marked increase compared to last year's range of 1500 to 2500 shillings (0.55-0.91 dollars) per kilogram.

In the 2023-24 marketing season, Tanzania exported cashews worth $227.1 million, with India being one of the largest importers.
