Patna. Bihar government has increased the commission of dealers for ration shops operated under Public Distribution System (PDS) by a whopping 52 percent. With this, the commission of dealers will now increase to Rs 258.40 per quintal.

The Food and Consumer Protection Department had sent a proposal to this effect to the state cabinet, which has been approved. The government hopes that this new decision will help in making the food distribution system more transparent and robust.

It is worth mentioning that till now the dealers of ration shops used to get a normal commission of Rs 90 per quintal, in which the contribution of the state government and the central government was Rs 45-45. Apart from this, commission was also given from the state plan post.

As a result, the dealers were getting a total commission of Rs 211.40 per quintal. But the state cabinet has now increased the state share by Rs 47 per quintal and fixed it at Rs 92 per quintal. In this way, the dealers will now get a commission of Rs 211.40 + Rs 47 i.e. Rs 258.40 per quintal.

The new commission will become effective from next month (September 2025). It is worth noting that the number of PDS shopkeepers / dealers in Bihar is more than 50 thousand and all of them will get the benefit of the government decision.

This will have a good possibility of increasing the quality and transparency in the distribution of food grains at the provincial level. Calculations show that if a dealer distributes 50 quintals of grain among the beneficiaries in a month, then he will receive an amount of Rs 12920 as commission.

It is known that apart from this, the dealers are also given a fixed honorarium by the government. In this way, the income of the dealers will increase well.
