New Delhi: Following a significant reduction in customs duties, Indian rice exporters have begun expanding their presence in the U.S. market. In this regard, a member of the Indian Rice Exporters Federation has successfully secured a contract to export 5,000 tons of basmati rice to the United States.

It is noteworthy that tariff rates on Indian products in the U.S. have been reduced from 50% to 18%. After the bilateral trade agreement between India and the United States, the U.S. lowered import duties on Indian goods. This move is expected to provide a strong opportunity for the rice industry, along with other sectors, to boost exports to the American market once again.

The Federation is encouraging its members to ensure high-quality rice standards so that India can maintain its reputation and credibility as the world’s leading rice exporter in the global market. India primarily exports premium basmati and ‘A’ grade non-basmati rice to the U.S. and European markets. Similarly, large volumes of basmati rice are shipped to Gulf and West Asian countries. India is gradually gaining an advantage in the U.S. market.
