14% more rain than normal average in the first fortnight of the current month

New Delhi. The latest data of the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) shows that during the first fortnight of the current month (September), there was about 14% more rain than the normal average of 95.2 mm at the national level, which was recorded at 108.5 mm.

As a result, the total rainfall between 1 June and 15 September in the current monsoon season reached 108% as compared to the long period average (LPA).

It is worth mentioning that there was 11% less rain in June as compared to LPA, but there was 9% more rain in July and 16% more rain in August. Now, there has been 14% surplus rain till mid-September.

The Meteorological Department has estimated 9% more rain in the entire month of September. As per the revised date,

the farewell journey of monsoon should start from 17th September but looking at its ongoing activity in various states of the country, it seems that it may remain in the country for the whole month.

At the national level, a total of 857.5 mm rainfall was recorded from 1st June to 15th September 2024, which was 7.7 percent more than the long-term average of 795.90 mm.

During the entire month of September, 200 cm rainfall has been estimated in the country, which is much more than the normal average.

During 1st-15th September, the eastern and northeastern parts of the country received 34.3 percent more rainfall than normal and the northwestern region received 40.8 percent more rainfall.

Central India also received 26.6 percent more rainfall and the southern peninsula received 23.5 percent more rainfall.
