Raipur: Increase in Area under Pulses and Oilseeds, Decline in Paddy Area In Chhattisgarh, despite a bumper paddy harvest last year, farmers are now showing increased interest in traditional crops along with other crops. Farmers in Korea district are taking interest in cultivating pulses and oilseeds in addition to paddy. According to information received by the Agriculture Department from Korea, during the Kharif season 2024-25, paddy was sown on 33,842 hectares in the district, whereas in the current Kharif season 2025-26, paddy has been sown on 32,920 hectares. This reflects a decrease of 922 hectares (2.75%). There has been a significant increase in the area under pulses and oilseeds in the district. Last year, pulses were cultivated on 9,194 hectares, while this year the area has increased to 9,730 hectares, showing an increase of 536 hectares (5.82%). Oilseed sowing covered 1,874 hectares in 2024, which has increased to 2,272 hectares this year, marking a rise of 398 hectares (21.23%). Peanut (groundnut) cultivation increased from 933 hectares last year to 1,520 hectares this year, reflecting a growth of 587 hectares (38.61%).
