Heavy Rains In Nashik
Nashik. Heavy rains last month in various regions of Maharashtra have caused significant damage to Kharif crops. In the Nashik division, cotton is estimated to have been damaged on approximately 2.75 lakh hectares, representing about 30 percent of the total area. It is noteworthy that the Nashik division comprises five districts: Nashik, Jalgaon, Dhule, Nandurbar, and Ahilya Nagar. During the 2025 Kharif season, the total cotton production area in the Nashik division was approximately 9 lakh hectares, of which approximately 2.75 lakh hectares, or 30 percent, is expected to be affected. According to available data, the cotton sowing area this year was recorded at 4.36 lakh hectares in Jalgaon, 1.81 lakh hectares in Dhule, 1.50 lakh hectares in Ahilya Nagar, 1.07 lakh hectares in Nandurbar, and 30,224 hectares in Nashik district. Assessments by the Maharashtra Agriculture Department indicate that natural disasters have had a disproportionate impact on the cotton crop in these districts. Ahilyanagar district is estimated to have the largest cotton crop damage, covering 1.36 lakh hectares, while Jalgaon district has seen damage to approximately 1.00 lakh hectares. Furthermore, damage to the cotton crop is estimated to have occurred in 21,299 hectares in Nashik district, 10,505 hectares in Dhule, and only 622 hectares in Nandurbar district. Floods and rains have caused varying degrees of damage to the cotton crop in these districts. The actual picture of the total losses is expected to emerge soon. Harvesting and preparation of the new cotton crop is also being delayed this time.
