Monday morning’s Export Inspections report showed wheat shipments of 496,108 MT (18.23 mbu) during the week ending March 5. This was 39.94% higher than the previous week and more than double the same week last year. China was the largest destination with 198,942 MT, followed by 97,215 MT to Mexico and 56,293 MT to Thailand.
Since June 1, total wheat shipments for the current marketing year have reached 19.12 MMT (702.7 mbu), which is 20.2% higher than the same period last year.
The USDA’s WASDE report will be released on Tuesday, with traders expecting U.S. wheat ending stocks at 926 million bushels, down 5 million bushels from last month.
As of March 3, managed money increased their net short position in CBT wheat futures and options by 8,503 contracts, taking it to 25,800 contracts. In KC wheat, speculators reduced their net long position by 2,338 contracts to 1,866 contracts.
