NASS data showed that 92% of the U.S. winter wheat crop had headed by June 7, which is 7 percentage points ahead of normal. Harvest progress reached 11%, compared to the average pace of 6%. Winter wheat condition ratings slipped by 1% to 25% good-to-excellent, while the Brugler500 Index fell 6 points to 263.
The spring wheat crop was 98% planted, 3 percentage points ahead of normal, with emergence at 87%, which is 7 points ahead of average. Spring wheat condition ratings improved by 5% to 52% good-to-excellent, and the Brugler500 Index rose 7 points to 350. Washington was the only state to show deterioration, down 3 points, while Montana (+13) and Minnesota (+9) recorded significant improvements.
According to NOAA, rainfall of 1 to 3 inches is expected across Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas during the coming week, which may slow harvest activities.
The USDA’s monthly Crop Production Report, due Thursday, is expected to show U.S. wheat production at 1.555 billion bushels. Winter wheat production is estimated at 1.04 billion bushels, representing a potential decline of 8 million bushels. Hard Red Winter (HRW) wheat production is expected to fall by 7 million bushels to 508 million bushels, while Soft Red Winter (SRW) wheat production is projected to increase by 1 million bushels to 302 million bushels.
The European Commission estimates total EU wheat exports from July 1 through June 7 at 22.05 million metric tons, which is 1.53 million metric tons higher than the same period last year.
