The weekly NASS Crop Progress Report showed that 92% of the U.S. soybean crop had been planted by June 7, which is 4 percentage points ahead of the normal pace. Approximately 79% of the crop had emerged, 8 percentage points faster than average. Crop condition ratings declined by 1% to 65% good-to-excellent, while the Brugler500 Index fell 2 points to 367.
Deterioration was most notable in Indiana (-9), Missouri (-4), South Dakota (-3), and North Dakota (-2). Meanwhile, conditions improved in Minnesota (+6), Nebraska (+3), Illinois (+3), and Ohio (+5).
Over the next week, rainfall of 1 to 3 inches is expected across large portions of eastern Kansas, Iowa, Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin. Ohio is expected to receive more scattered precipitation, while Nebraska and the Dakotas are forecast to receive only light amounts.
Traders surveyed ahead of Thursday’s WASDE report expect little change in soybean stocks. Old-crop soybean carryout is estimated at 339 million bushels, compared to 340 million bushels in May. New-crop carryout is projected to remain unchanged at 310 million bushels.
China imported 11.79 million metric tons of soybeans in May, down 15.3% from the same month last year. ANEC estimates Brazilian soybean exports for June at 14.38 million metric tons, up from last month’s estimate of 12.36 million metric tons.
