Pea prices rise due to increased buying
Kanpur. The pea market witnessed a bullish trend during the current week. Pea prices improved due to weakening of selling pressure at lower prices and increased buying. Increasing activity among stockists and pulse millers also provided strong support to rising pea prices. According to market experts, if demand remains strong, further price increases are possible in the coming days. According to the Canadian Ministry of Agriculture, domestic pea production increased by 19% to 3.56 million tonnes in the 2025-26 season. Higher yields and increased acreage contributed to the increased production, with Saskatchewan alone contributing 47%. Yellow pea production is projected to increase to 2.78 million tonnes, green peas to 5.30 lakh tonnes, and other varieties to 2.50 lakh tonnes. Including previous stocks, total availability could reach 4.1 million tonnes. Of this, 2.2 million tons of peas are expected to be exported, but increased availability and limited exports could lead to new record surplus stocks by the end of the season. Normal domestic consumption and intensifying international competition have put pressure on prices. The average market price is estimated to fall by more than 30% to around $280/tonne. Meanwhile, pea production in the United States has also increased by 23% to 930,000 tons, with a 21% increase in sown area.
