Decline in Moong Prices Due to Weak Demand and Limited Buying
Moong prices in the domestic market witnessed a downward trend this week, driven by sustained availability in producing-region markets and weak demand from pulse mills. Limited demand for Moong dal has kept procurement by pulse mills subdued, exerting pressure on Moong prices. Meanwhile, buying activity from stockists at higher price levels also remained limited. The lack of expected support from both pulse mills and stockists prevented any bullish sentiment from emerging in the market. Furthermore, the continued availability of stock in producing-region markets limited any scope for a price recovery. Moving forward, the balance between supply and demand will dictate the direction of prices. If procurement by pulse mills does not improve while supplies in producing-region markets remain steady, downward pressure on prices is likely to persist. Conversely, an improvement in demand could provide support to the market. Due to weak demand from pulse millers, Moong prices in Delhi fell by Rs 400 per quintal this week, settling in the range of Rs 7,800–8,600 per quintal.
Rajasthan
In Rajasthan, an increase in arrivals at producing-region markets, coupled with sluggish buying by stockists, led to a decline of Rs 150–300 per quintal in Moong prices this week.
