Chana Market Fluctuates: Prices Weak Due to Sluggish Demand and Foreign Pressure

New Delhi. The chickpea market experienced a volatile trend during the current week. Due to sluggish demand, demand for chickpea dal and gram flour remained weak, limiting buying by dal millers. The lack of expected improvement in demand is not supporting rising prices, and chickpea prices remain under constant pressure. Additionally, increased selling of cheap Australian chickpeas has further weakened domestic market sentiment. Low prices of foreign chickpeas have put additional pressure on local traders, leading to a continued downward trend in chickpea prices. Meanwhile, according to data from the Union Agriculture Ministry, chickpea production area has increased from 49.30 lakh hectares to 53.71 lakh hectares in the current Rabi season. Chickpea sowing continues in full swing in Rajasthan, with 20.79 lakh hectares sown as of November 27th, an increase of 4.24 lakh hectares compared to the same period last year.
Due to subdued buying by pulse millers, Delhi chickpea prices fluctuated by Rs. 25/50 per quintal this week. With this fluctuation, prices at the Madhya Pradesh line settled at Rs. 5625/5650 and Rajasthan line at Rs. 5700/5725 per quintal at the end of the week.
Port
Due to subdued selling by importers and improved demand, imported chickpea prices improved by Rs. 25/50 per quintal this week. With this improvement, prices in Mumbai, Tanzania, Nawashah, Australia, reached Rs. 5500/5525 ​​and Mundra, Rs. 5425 per quintal.
Rajasthan
Due to increased buying, Rajasthan gram prices witnessed a rise of Rs 25/50 per quintal this week. With this increase, the prices at the weekend stood at Rs 4900/5300 in Jodhpur, Rs 5700 in Jaipur, Rs 5300/5350 in Bikaner, Rs 4700/5200 in Kishangarh and Rs 4600/5150 per quintal in Kota.
Maharashtra
Due to increased selling pressure at higher prices and weak demand, Maharashtra gram prices declined by Rs 75/150 per quintal during the current week. With this decline, the prices at the weekend stood at Rs 5500/5850 in Solapur, Rs 5400/5500 in Latur, Rs 5400/5500 in Akola, Rs 5650 in Nagpur, Rs 5700 in Ahmednagar and Rs 5500/5700 per quintal.
Madhya Pradesh
Due to continued lack of demand, prices of gram in Madhya Pradesh declined by ₹50/100 per quintal this week, and with this decline, prices at the weekend stood at ₹5000/5250 for Ashoknagar, ₹5000/5250 for Ganjbasoda, ₹4800/5300 for Sagar, ₹5000/5350 for Katni, and ₹5500/5550 for Indore.
Other
Due to sluggish demand, Kanpur gram prices fluctuated by ₹25/50 per quintal during the current week, and with this fluctuation, the price ended at ₹5700 per quintal. Similarly, Raipur gram prices also fluctuated by ₹50 per quintal this week, and with this fluctuation, the price ended at ₹5600/5800 per quintal.
Chana Dal
Due to sluggish demand, the prices of Chana Dal declined by Rs 50 per quintal during the current week and with this decline, the prices at the weekend stood at Rs 6550/6825 in Delhi, Rs 6850/7000 in Bhatapara, Rs 6850/7000 in Katni, Rs 6950 in Gulbarga, Rs 6800/7100 in Jalgaon, Rs 6700/7400 in Indore, Rs 6600/6750 in Jaipur, Rs 6425 and Rs 6600/6700 per quintal in Kanpur.
