Jakarta. Exporters from Vietnam and Myanmar won an international tender issued by Indonesia's government grain procurement agency - Bulog for rice purchase, while exporters from Thailand and Pakistan could not get any success.
Exporters from Vietnam got the contract to deliver a total of 1.86 lakh tonnes of 5 percent broken white rice in seven lots,
while exporters from Myanmar got the order to export 1.35 lakh tonnes of rice of the same category, which will be in five lots. The offer price of rice from Thailand and Pakistan was high.
Since commercial export of non-basmati white rice from India has been closed for the last one year, Indian exporters are deprived of participating in such tenders.
Exporters have been repeatedly demanding the government to allow the export of white rice as there is a huge demand for it in the global market, but the government has been continuously ignoring it because it fears that the domestic market price of rice will increase.
According to trade analysts, the price of rice in Vietnam had started coming down due to good arrival of new goods, but now the market is expected to stabilize after the results of the Indonesian tender are out.
Due to the competitive and attractive price of Vietnamese rice, it may be successful in getting most of the rice tenders issued by Bulog.
Vietnam's exporters have kept the export offer price of rice at a very low level. Bulog had issued a tender for import of rice in 12 lots.
In Vietnam, the free on board export offer price of 5 percent broken white rice on August 1, 2024 increased by $ 6 to $ 540 per tonne compared to last week.
