Market optimism remained ahead of a meeting between U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessent and Chinese officials scheduled for this weekend in Paris. This will be followed by a possible meeting later this month between Donald Trump and Xi Jinping.
The latest USDA WASDE report showed a 5 million bushel increase in the U.S. soybean import category, which was offset by a 5 million bushel increase in crush. The crush estimate is now at 2.575 billion bushels, leaving U.S. ending stocks unchanged at 350 million bushels.
Brazilian soybean production was kept unchanged this month at 180 MMT, while Argentina’s production was reduced by 0.5 MMT to 48 MMT.
Globally, another notable change was a 0.18 MMT increase in old-crop carryover, while 2025/26 global stocks were trimmed by 0.2 MMT to 125.31 MMT.
According to China’s customs data, soybean imports during January and February totaled 12.55 MMT, down 7.8% from the same period last year.
