Sowing of Kabuli gram in Saskatchewan reaches final stage

Regina. The agriculture department of Saskatchewan, Canada's most prominent agricultural producer state, had said that till May 27, sowing of gram (mainly Kabuli) had been completed in about 78 percent area in the province, which is slightly less than the 10-year average area.

Since the last date for sowing from the insurance point of view is May 21, there is little possibility of much improvement in the sowing area going forward.

In the initial stage, its area was estimated to reach 4 lakh acres, but it seems that the actual area will fall behind this. Although the weather conditions have remained quite favorable for the gram crop so far,

but excessive rain in some areas may increase the infestation of insects and diseases on the crop, due to which there will be a possibility of a decrease in the yield rate.

There are chances of an increase in the production of gram in Australia, Mexico and Turkey during the current year as compared to last year, due to which its supply and availability in the global market will remain smooth and there will not be much rise in prices. Desi gram will be imported in India by October.
