22-Jan-2025 07:34 PM

During the ongoing 202425 sugar season, sugar production in Maharashtra has reached 4.75 million tons, which is lower than the 5.76 million tons produced during the same period last season. Currently, 196 sugar mills are operational in the state for cane crushing, 10 fewer than the previous season.
By January 21, mills across the state crushed 53.33 million tons of sugarcane, compared to 61.36 million tons during the same period last year. The average sugar recovery rate in the state stands at 8.91%, down from 9.39% last season. This data has been provided by the Sugar Commissionerate report.
Reasons for Decline in Sugar Production:
Delayed Crushing Season
Diversion of Sugar for Ethanol Production
Reduced Sugarcane Yield

Addressing these challenges is crucial for the state government and sugar mills to ensure stable sugar production in the future.
