Jaipur. In Rajasthan, the country's leading mustard-producing state, harvesting and arrival of this important oilseed crop in the markets has already begun, and farmers are selling their produce to traders and millers, but government procurement has not yet begun. This has caused anger among farmers.
On the other hand, the wheat crop is still standing in the fields in the state, but the government has announced its procurement starting March 10, and all necessary preparations have been completed. Rajasthan is the fourth largest wheat contributor to the central pool.
According to official sources, government procurement of mustard seed in Rajasthan will begin on March 15.
The central government has increased the minimum support price (MSP) for this oilseed from last year's Rs. 5950 per quintal to Rs. 6200 per quintal, and the MSP for wheat has been increased from Rs. 2425 per quintal to Rs. 2585 per quintal.
An additional bonus of ₹150 per quintal has been announced for wheat farmers in Rajasthan. The mustard crop is in good condition this year, and production is expected to be better.
