Jaipur. In Rajasthan, India’s western state, while the harvest of kharif crops is underway, the sowing of rabi crops is progressing rapidly. Farmers are showing strong enthusiasm for cultivating major rabi crops—particularly wheat, gram (chickpea), and mustard—leading to a significant expansion in the total sown area. The acreage under other crops has also surpassed last year’s levels.

According to the latest weekly report released by the Rajasthan Agriculture Department, as of November 3, 2025, the total sown area under rabi crops in the state has jumped to 46.01 lakh hectares, compared with 36.68 lakh hectares during the same period last year—an increase of about 9.34 lakh hectares.

Within this, the area under cereal crops has expanded from 1.51 lakh hectares to 3.61 lakh hectares, pulses from 9.64 lakh hectares to 12.55 lakh hectares, and oilseeds from 23.19 lakh hectares to 27.46 lakh hectares.

Official data show that the acreage under wheat has risen sharply from 1.07 lakh hectares last year to 2.62 lakh hectares, while the area under barley has increased from 44,000 hectares to 99,000 hectares.

Among pulses, gram (chickpea) acreage has surged from 9.56 lakh hectares last year to 12.47 lakh hectares this season, although the area under other pulses has declined slightly from 8,520 hectares to 7,829 hectares.

As for oilseed crops, mustard has seen a major jump in acreage—from 22.73 lakh hectares to 28.62 lakh hectares—while taramira (rocket salad seed) cultivation has increased from 43,000 hectares to 80,000 hectares. However, the area under linseed (flaxseed) has fallen from 3,482 hectares to 2,928 hectares. The vigorous pace of rabi sowing in the state continues.
