Rabi crop acreage in Gujarat reaches 23.29 lakh hectares

Ahmedabad. Clear and favorable weather conditions have accelerated the sowing pace of Rabi crops in Gujarat, the western state of India. According to the latest data from the state agriculture department,
the total Rabi crop acreage in Gujarat has increased to 23.29 lakh hectares as of December 1st, exceeding the 21.44 lakh hectares sown during the same period last year and exceeding 50 percent of the normal average area of 46.07 lakh hectares.
Compared to last year, the wheat acreage in Gujarat during the current Rabi season increased from 4.86 lakh hectares to 6.02 lakh hectares, and the total cereal crop acreage improved from 5.80 lakh hectares to 6.94 lakh hectares. However, among cereal crops, the maize acreage declined from 81 thousand hectares to 76 thousand hectares.
Pulse sowing progressed significantly, improving from 4.37 lakh hectares to 5.16 lakh hectares. While the area under chickpeas increased from 3.87 lakh hectares to 4.86 lakh hectares, the area under other crops, including mung beans, declined from 50,000 hectares to 30,000 hectares.
Similarly, the sowing of oilseeds improved from 1.82 lakh hectares to 2.02 lakh hectares. Mustard cultivation increased from 1.80 lakh hectares to 2.00 lakh hectares, while the area under chickpeas declined from 2,000 hectares to 1,000 hectares.
In addition to the major agricultural crops mentioned above, Gujarat also cultivates several other crops and spices, including cumin, coriander, fennel, sawa, garlic, and isabgol. In comparison to last year, during the current Rabi season,
the production area of cumin decreased from 2,11,121 hectares to 1,94,775 hectares and the area of fennel decreased from 20 thousand hectares to 18 thousand hectares, but on the other hand,
the sowing area of coriander increased from 41,721 hectares to 55,333 hectares and the area of isabgol improved from 4526 hectares to 4862 hectares.
