★ The Agriculture Ministry’s second advance estimate for 2025–26 has outlined the production outlook for major pulses in India, taking into account both kharif and rabi seasons.

Tur (Pigeon Pea)

★ According to the Agriculture Ministry, tur production in 2025–26 is estimated at about 34.55 lakh tonnes. In the previous year, 2024–25, production stood at 36.24 lakh tonnes. This indicates a decline of around 1.7 lakh tonnes in tur output in the current year.

Urad (Black Gram)

★ In 2025–26, kharif urad production is estimated at 12.06 lakh tonnes and rabi production at 5.08 lakh tonnes, taking the total output to about 17.14 lakh tonnes. In 2024–25, kharif production was 13.41 lakh tonnes and rabi production was 5.53 lakh tonnes, with total production at 18.94 lakh tonnes. Thus, a slight decline in urad output is expected this year.

Moong (Green Gram)

★ For 2025–26, kharif moong production is estimated at 19.82 lakh tonnes and rabi production at 0.87 lakh tonnes, taking the total to about 20.69 lakh tonnes. In the previous year, total production was 42.44 lakh tonnes, which included contributions from kharif, rabi and summer seasons.

Chana (Gram)

★ Chana production in 2025–26 is estimated at 117.92 lakh tonnes, higher than the 111.14 lakh tonnes recorded in 2024–25. Increased acreage and favorable weather during the rabi season are expected to support higher production.

Lentil (Masur)

★ Lentil is also a major rabi pulse. Production in 2025–26 is estimated at 17.33 lakh tonnes, compared with 16.54 lakh tonnes in 2024–25, indicating a slight increase this year.
